What Will You Do With Your Time?
What if I told you that the greatest gift we all have is that we are going to die?
Sounds strange doesn’t it?
How could that possibly be a gift?
It’s all about perspective.
The simple fact is that without a time limit, without an ending we would have no motivation to move forward and change.
The time limit gives us some urgency in what we choose to do or not to do. To make our mark on this world to be relevant with the time we have, to go for our dreams to make this world a better place. It creates a natural desire within us to expand and grow into our full potential.
Our life is a based the simple law of nature. Just as the acorn is designed to grow into its full expression of a thriving tree, it is our inherent natural design to become our our very best in every area of our lives.
Think about if there was no end, would you be reading this article, or would you “do it tomorrow…” like so many non-urgent tasks. Without an ending, we might never progress.
If we keep believing that we’ll do it tomorrow, we allow ourselves to be constantly distracted and start living in a hypnotic trance. Eventually tomorrow doesn’t show up. The time is in the now.
We arrive in this world with a specific timestamp. That’s the day we are born. We leave this world with an equal and opposite time stamp when we die.
The time between those two dates is our dash. It’s the dash that will be drawn on our headstone.
The dash represents time every moment of time Your dash represents every single moment of your time, all the ups and downs, the highs and lows, the good times and the bad times, the victories and the defeats every memory and every moment in time –we all get one dash.
I’m often asked when it’s the right time to do things:
- Get in shape.
- Shift my career.
- Learn a new skill or hobby.
- Have that difficult conversation.
My answer is always the same. Now.
Do it now. Always do it now. Because now is all we have.
We often get caught in the trap of waiting for the right time. It’s a psychological delay tactic to keep us safe. But it’s really only holding us back.
If you are here now, then you are here for a reason.
The fact that we are here is a sign that we are here to do something with our own unique talents and gifts.
You must choose your purpose and live it every moment of every day.
Why are you here?
Why are you here now, at this moment?
There are many things that could have stopped you from getting here, but you made it. You are here for a reason.
Our inherent nature is to be our full potential and to be relevant for ourselves and the collective community.
But we only get One Dash with which to live our purpose.
The dash is the visual representation of what we get to do with the time we have.
The tricky part is that we know when we started but we don’t know when it ends.
That makes every moment our most precious possession.
Here’s how you can make sure you’re using your One Dash to the fullest every day:
Ask yourself the following questions:
- What’s important to me right now?
AND
- Is what I am about to do next contributing or contaminating to my dash?
There is a beginning and end to our life. Both are great gifts.
Make the most of your One Dash.
ONE – DASH ™
We arrive in this world with a specific timestamp.
That’s the day we are born.
We leave this world with an equal and opposite timestamp
when we die.
The time between those two dates is our dash.
It’s the dash that will be drawn on our headstone.
Your dash represents every single moment of your time,
all the ups and downs, the highs and lows,
the good times and the bad times,
the victories and the defeats
every memory and every moment in time –
we all get one dash.
Inside your dash is your time.
Your time is your most valuable, precious,
and limited resource.
We make the mistake of throwing it away,
not protecting it,
and allowing it to be stolen and hijacked
without even realizing it.
It’s your time now to take charge of your dash
to make the most of it and let go of all the things
that are no longer serving you.
You are here for something greater.
It’s time to awaken it.
We all come with an assignment, a purpose, a mission.
To know it, to connect to it and to live it,
we must first pause so we can think, feel,
and ask the question:
What is truly important to me?
What really matters?
Our world is rapidly changing.
To be our best in and our full potential,
we must change with it.
It’s time to listen to the voice inside of you –
your authentic voice,
the one that motivates and inspires you,
the one that connects to your gifts and talents,
the one that contributes to the world
and makes a difference.
It’s time to make your move,
to be who you were meant to be,
to do what you were meant to do.
You only get one dash.
It’s time to make the most of it.
